Lifeguard on watch on tower

Kiama Council is pleased to announce the return of our dedicated lifeguards and volunteer lifesavers, ensuring a safe and enjoyable beach experience for all residents and visitors during the upcoming school holidays commencing on 23 September.

Surf Beach will be patrolled seven days a week:

  • 10am to 5:30pm on weekdays (Council Lifeguards)
  • 10am to 4pm on weekends (Kiama Surf Lifesaving Club)

Jones and Werri Beaches will be patrolled on weekends from 10am to 4pm.

Please remember to swim between the flags.

Beach patrols will increase starting 19 December when the summer lifeguards begin work.

In collaboration with Surf Lifesaving NSW and the NSW Government, Kiama Council is reinforcing its commitment to water safety by introducing an unprecedented level of measures this patrol season.

Kiama Council will continue to work tirelessly to enhance safety measures, including the Emergency Relay Beacons (ERBs) at identified drowning black spots such as South Bombo Beach, Kendalls Beach, and Blowhole Point, (which were installed last year – link to story) which have added an extra layer of security for all beachgoers.

In accordance with the NSW Government Shark Mitigation Strategy, SMART drumlines and drones will also continue to be utilised across the region.
