Recycling bin

Bottle lids are too small to recycle separately.

The sorting facility can't extract them.

To recycle plastic lids, leave them on their plastic bottle/container and put in your yellow recycling bin.

Separate lids from the bottle/container/jar if not made of the same material:

  • steel lid from a glass jar (e.g. pasta sauce jars)
  • aluminium lid from a glass bottle (e.g. glass soft drink bottles)
  • plastic lids from steel containers (e.g. deodorant can).

If the lid is smaller than business card size, put it in your red landfill bin e.g. wine bottle lid, soft drink lid.

Or you can recycle smaller lids in your yellow recycling bin by:

  • scrunching aluminium lids inside aluminium foil. It's aluminium if it doesn't stick to a magnet (e.g. wine bottle lid)
  • putting steel lids inside a steel can. It's steel if it does stick to a magnet (e.g. beer bottle lid).

Put in your yellow recycling bin.

Cardboard pizza boxes are recyclable, but the leftover pizza, crusts and melted cheese are not. Clean out your pizza boxes before putting them in your yellow recycling bin.
