Member for Kiama Gareth Ward MP announced yesterday that he has secured funding under the New South Wales Government's Strong Country Communities Fund for the Kiama Visitor Information Centre and Surf Beach amenities upgrade.

Mr Ward was joined at the announcement by Mayor Mark Honey and General Manager Kerry McMurray.

$550,000 will go toward the Visitor Centre and $100,000 toward Surf Beach.

“Kiama now exceeds one million visitors annually, with many converging on the Kiama Harbour area which features the blowhole, lighthouse and Pilot's House.

“I will continue to fight for community projects such as this which bring so many benefits for our local community,” Mr Ward said.

The Mayor of Kiama Mark Honey said:

“The holiday traffic through the Visitor Information Centre continues to grow, with 450 people passing through on the Sunday of the long weekend alone. Visitation to Kiama is increasing every year with Surf Beach being one of our most visited beaches, hosting locals and international visitors alike. Both facilities are well overdue for a makeover and expansion to cater for the growing need,” he said.

“I’d like to thank the Member for Kiama Gareth Ward MP for his continued support and ability to secure funding for Kiama and our surrounds,” Mayor Honey concluded.
