Kiama Council has begun preparations for hosting the World Surf League (WSL) Junior Championships, which begin January 4 at Bombo Beach.

Hosting the World Junior Championships means temporary changes to how the public can access the north end of Bombo Beach during the tournament.

The North Bombo top car park will be closed to vehicles from 27 December, and reopen by 17 January at the latest.

The car park will be open temporarily on 31 December and 1 January, but parking will be limited due to the presence of WSL facilities.

Once the tournament starts, surfing fans will be able to use a temporary car park at Robert East Reserve off Hutchison Street (see map).

Residents and visitors wishing to swim or surf at Bombo will have use of a patrolled area next to the tournament.

Swimming or surfing at the southern end of Bombo as an alternative is strongly discouraged, due the dangerous rips that occur in this area.
