Kiama Council is encouraging ratepayers to have their say on the proposed Special Rate Variation (SRV).

Council will be seeking an SRV from the NSW Government of 6 per cent for 3 successive years, starting in 2018/19.

General Manager Michael Forsyth said consulting with the community was an important part of the SRV process.

“While the SRV has been planned for quite some time, as part of our Long Term Financial Plan, ratepayers still have the opportunity to have their say,” Mr Forsyth said.

“Given the importance of this issue for the community, we’ve provided a longer period for people to provide their submissions.”

Submissions regarding the proposed SRV can be made until 4pm 19 January 2018.

Submissions can be emailed to council@kiama.nsw.gov.au, or mailed to:

Mr Forsyth said Council had also begun a series of meetings to discuss the SRV face-to-face with various resident and business groups.

“We’ve already met with Central Precinct, and there’s further meetings planned with South Precinct (21 December), and Minnamurra Progress Association (5 December).”

“I encourage people with an interest to attend one of these meetings.”

“For those who cannot attend, Council has developed a frequently asked questions resource on our website to help answer most queries.”

“We are also developing a rates estimator to help people ascertain how much their rates will change as a result of the SRV.”
